Technical information about our laser profiling services
We use two Trumpf laser machines for our profiling cutting:
- The Trumpf 3530 Trulaser 4.0Kw
- Trulaser 5030 3kw Fibre with Compact liftmaster loading
The maximum sheet size for both machines is 3000mm x 1500mm.
Our lasers are extremely productive at cutting designs both simple and complex onto different types of metal. The immense speed of our CNC laser cutting service in Derby means we can guarantee extremely fast turnaround times to suit your deadlines. Our Fibre laser in particular has the ability to cut highly reflective metals. Making it ideal for laser cutting brass sheets.
Our CNC metal profiling machinery enables us to cut intricate etchings, details and markings on very thin metals without the need for extensive or expensive tooling. We can also cut very thick metals as well, such as mild steel thickness of up to 20mm. We have an extensive supply of different materials to make sure that we have the best utilisation for your components. Laser profiling is the act of adjusting the energy output and quality of a laser for a particular function or cut. The ability to adjust the energy, waveform, width, shape, uniformity and quality of a laser beam is very important in manufacturing. By adjusting a laser’s profile, engineers can set the laser up in a laser cutting machine to cut all sorts of accurate and intricate cuts for manufacturing purposes.
Pros: powerful lasers can cut precisely into materials or etch them — right down to the micrometer — into a particular shape or pattern. These exact cuts are easy to replicate time and again. And the cuts are almost always finely cut, perfectly smooth, and free of surface imperfections such as burrs. This precision means every part is cut exactly as intended, which can greatly extend the part’s lifespan. Laser profiling and cutting is also fast, clean, and very precise. The process also involves less wastage of materials.
Cons: CNC metal profiling machines require expert operators to handle them. The machines are also very expensive to purchase and to maintain. The process of laser cutting can also emit fumes, so the surrounding environment needs to be safe and optimised for a laser cutting service to go ahead. Lasers also struggle to cut through metal plates exceeding 20mm.
